Buses seem to be the story of the day, what with proper school buses now gracing Hampstead's streets. Ham&High reported this week that Hampstead 2020, an environmental group based in Hampstead that campaigns for change in the way we treat Hampstead, had put forward an idea that could save Hampstead residents time and money, and in turn save the high street.

The idea is a fleet of electric buses that would serve Hampstead's main areas of commerce. Parking is a massive issue in Hampstead as I'm sure anyone knows who has ever tried to travel to Hampstead by car is quite aware. The buses would save people from searching for a parking spot.

Effectively an environmentally friendly park and ride, Hampstead 2020 have suggested that the service could start at Jack Straw's Castle, where people could park their cars, and then the bus could take them down into the far reaches of Hampstead and back up again.

An interesting idea, and of course, anything that reduces congestion and pollution is a great thing. Yet will the idea work? How many buses would be needed to make the scheme more efficient than walking. It'll be interesting to see how it works once the scheme's up-and-running.
