The RMT union will be striking until tomorrow evening. There are conflicting opinions as to who shall be affected. According to Ham&High, those of you travelling on the Victoria, Jubilee and Piccadilly lines may experience a slight disruption in services. On TFL's site however, they claim that services shall continue exactly as usual and we shouldn't be concerned. Looking at the current live reports, it seems things are running as...
  • Brian Coleman Calls For Driverless Tube Trains

    By  Jesse_Custer at 11:42 on 22/06/10
    The London Underground
An interesting idea has been suggested recently and was last week backed by Brian Coleman, Assembly member for Camden and Barnet. The original proposal suggested that the improvements currently under-way on the Northern Line could include driverless technology. It's a controversial idea, but I get the impression that it's being considered. Brian Coleman has backed it, his argument on the The Times being that 'it would result in a...

The RMT and TSSA unions are due to strike this Monday (6th September) until Tuesday 7th. For information as to why, see our previous article complaining about it.     Having experimented with TFL's journey planner, it seems as if the strike won't actually affect commuters too much. Tubes may be slightly less regular but people will still be able to get from A to B. To check your journey, head to TFL's website.
  • Tube Strikes Against Proposed Job Cuts

10,000 Transport for London staff are set to strike on the 6th September in protest against the removal of 800 jobs. The jobs to be removed are ticket office postions. The reasoning of course is that many ticket office positions just aren't needed. According to statistics, some offices sell less than 10 tickets and hour and of course this isn't the most practical use of the staff. But of course, there aren't enough non-ticket office...
  • Northern Line Evening Closures Cancelled

Good news for all evening socialites, the planned closures of the Northern Line won't be going ahead. The line was due to close every evening in the summer (and potentially onwards) from 10PM for planned upgrade works. Local traders were particularly concerned as to how the closures would affect their business and so are undoubtedly pleased about the cancellation. The rest of us will most likely also be pleased the we...
  • National Bike Week in Hampstead

    Cycling
Next week is national bike week! Of course, the council have teamed up with the Met. Police and the NHS and are encouraging people to cycle instead of using their normal modes of transport. The week will see several events grace Camden that will encourage people to take up cycling. Or, if you're one of those already pedalling away, will give you an opportunity to have a free bike check-up! The events will be throughout the week and...
