Sports Clubs in Hampstead for the Summer

An article appeared last week in the Ham&High about Hampstead's local bowling club in Parliament Hill potentially having to share their ground with croquet players. Needless to say this has caused anger amongst the members, but they have been told they need to increase their membership else this will be a real possibility. Seeing as we're hitting the height of summer, it seems an appropriate time to get involved in that sport you always meant to get round to but never quite managed, be it bowls, cricket, or a bit of skittles.

Not really an outdoor sport of course, but anyone who's been reading HampsteadPeople for a while will remember we were lucky enough to have the national skittle s championships a couple of months back. The venue is beneath The Free Mason's Arms and it's one of two where you can play skittles in London. They meet every Tuesday evening.

More of an outdoorsy type? Understandable in our hopefully scorching summer. More down towards West Hampstead, but of course still accessible, is Hampstead Cricket and Sports Club. Just browsing their homepage will give you a pretty good idea of the different sports that are available from this facility. Naturally cricket is available (it'd be a strange title for the club if it weren't) and they Hampstead Cricket Club even have their own homepage. If that's not your thing (and I understand it's an acquired taste as a sport) maybe tennis will tickle your fancy. Or even a touch of golf. Anyone interested in the most frustrating (but often most satisfying) of all sports is actually spoilt for choice, what with Hampstead Golf Club just north of Hampstead Heath.

'What if none of these summery pursuits are to my taste?!' I hear you cry... Well, there's always Hampstead Rugby Club who, in their words, have already started 'pre-season torture'. Failing that? We do have a rather large expanse of green on our door-step. Grab a football and some friends and have a good old fashioned kick-about.

You'd think so wouldn't you? I guess it's something to do with the lack of actual facilities on the Heath and the volume of traffic surrounding it. Where does one go for horse riding in London?

I still wonder how it's possible that there's no possibility for horseriding in Hampstead. With the park + the hilly area shouldn't it be the perfect spot for it?
