Music in Hampstead

Hampstead is a great place for art, what with the Hampstead
Theatre, the New End Theatre and the quaint Pentameters Theatre above The Three
Horseshoes gracing Hampstead village. Or if you’re more of a visual person,
Camden Arts Centre is just down the road (and just because it’s got Camden in the title,
doesn’t mean we can’t claim it for ourselves! It’s nearer to us than them!)
Being something of a music lover myself though, I can’t help
but notice that we’re lacking something of an audio scene here… I’m aware of
bands who have come from Hampstead originally (Rosie Oddie and the Odd Squad
for example… Although they’re now renamed Oddyssey) but all these guys seem to run
a mile as soon as they can and set-up camp in Camden Town…
In my brief (and slightly muddy… Don’t go on Hampstead Heath
at the moment in Converse…) venture around town earlier this week I could only
find one obviously example of a musical event occurring over the next few days.
Rosslyn Hill Chapel will be hosting an ‘Opera Gala’ on the 20th of February.
According to the poster 'Rising young stars of the opera world present a
selection of beautiful and much loved music.’ Tickets are £12 and more
importantly, there’s wine and refreshments. So if opera’s your thing, then what
more can you want!?
Meanwhile, I intend to search under every rock and stone in
Hampstead to find somewhere that puts live music on a regular basis. Maybe the
pubs might have a lead. If anyone knows of anything, let me know. Otherwise,
watch this space…

I'm gonna start a music night. I think Hampstead needs one.
