The Law on Fox Hunting to Go to a Vote

One of the major points of contention in our new coalition government will be Cameron's desire to get the ban on fox hunting lifted.

Clegg isn't a fan of the idea apparently, but seeing as he's somewhat out numbered, a decision to have a vote on the matter has been made. Democracy in action people!

It's pretty unclear what way the vote will actually go. Over at the Telegraph, they suggest that without a Conservative majority, it's quite likely that the law will remain the same, but you can never be sure with these things...

It's not something that particularly affects us over here in Hampstead, but I'm sure us city folk have an opinion on the matter. We generally do on most things. Having done a little research into it, it does sound like there are aspects of the sport that can be potentially cruel, but I'm not one to judge such things unless I have first hand experience. Is there anyone out there who agrees that the law should disappear? Or are we right in banning the sport?

The fox hunting ban has to stay.
There are many other ways the rural gentry can occupy their time without venturing out to kill the local wildlife.

Bear baiting has gone as has cock fighting.
Leave the foxes to eat earth worms..it is what they normally feed upon...not sleeping babies in Hackney.
The continuing death by poisoning of some of the most beautiful birds of prey in this country is an equal and similiarly unimpressive display of the power of the wealthy gentry in Great Britain.
Their paid keepers poison the alleged competition to protect their 'game bird' interests and their shooting profits. Some contest.... The reared game birds become so familiar with human contact that when they see people they run towards them only to be shot.
Must feel really good to shoot a bird that is not trying to escape or to kill a fox with dogs that is desperate and stressed.
A sad relection upon what some people feel justified in pursuing.
As a guardian of the earths eco systems, a believer in its vitality and its plant and wild life, I am suitably disgusted.
Ban all so called sport that involves the killing of wildlife simply for human pleasure. It is degrading.

Completely true theid. My lukewarm attitude was more to encourage debate rather than just present my own opinion. In all honesty I find fox-hunting cowardly and unimpressive. Hunting down one animal with an army just isn't sport. Give one man a knife and hunt a fox that way, well, then I wouldn't be so against it...

Mmm. I haven't got first hand experience of living in Berlin in the 30s but I'm pretty sure my life would have been hell! Nowadays we have the wonder of
"tinternet" (pace Peter Kay) so it is possible to be more informed about most things if you do the research.

I'd say a very good point from theid there. It's a 'sport' that I've never been a fan of, and I'm sure my flippent use of incerted commas there will rather annoy people, but oh well. Go and pick on someone your own size...
