Hampstead Tube and Northern Line Closures

A couple of weeks ago the most annoying thing happened. The tube closed. At the weekend. When I really needed to get down to central. I don’t remember why, but it was very important. Something to do with saving the world or such-like…

Anyway, it was very, very annoying. The replacement bus from Golders Green to Euston may just be the slowest vehicle on the entire planet. It took what seemed like forty minutes to make the (usually ten minute) journey from Hampstead to Camden. And then my journey wasn’t even done!

There is actually a point to this rant. Ladies and gentlemen, be warned, this weekend (20th and 21st February) the northern line will be closed yet again. So don’t venture out of Hampstead. Lock your doors and bar your windows. No-one’s going anywhere…

And that’s not the worst news. This is going to be a regular thing from now on. Just how regular hasn’t been decided yet but we can expect the tube to be closed more and more regularly from now on.

Statistics on Ham&High’s site currently show that the engineering company have been granted ‘extented hours’ which means there will be no tubes serving Hampstead and the surrounding stations after 11:30 from Mondays to Thursdays starting in March.

As well as that, they’ve been given ‘16 partial weekend closures’. I don’t even know what that means, but I’m willing to bet it’s not good…
