So after a strongly fought and what seems a very long election, the MP for Hampstead and Kilburn has at last been announced.

Two hours and twenty minutes after the result was meant to be decided, Glenda Jackson was elected MP of Hampstead and Kilburn. Rumours throughout the count were that she was a mere 50 or so votes ahead of Conservative candidate Chris Philp. When the official figures eventually came to light, the rumours weren't far off. Glenda Jackson won by an astonishing 42 votes.

Naturally you can find more detailed results over on the BBC, but it's generally being accepted that this was the closest fought seat in the whole of the UK. Glenda is now entering her third term as MP for Hampstead with a minuscule 0.1% majority.

There was disappointment for Ed Fordham who put up a good fight for the Liberal Democrats, and in any other constituency, it probably would have been enough. He was 799 votes behind.

Of the other parties, Bea Campbell of the Green Party took the most votes, but as ever it was in a completely different league with them gaining just 759 votes.

So how does Hampstead and Kilburn feel remaining under Labour? Glenda Jackson has often been criticised for being one of the laziest MPs and her lack of an election campaign did nothing to douse those accusations. Did she deserve this victory?

Unfortunately my computer's dying and won't let me open Glenda's allowances. Useful sites though for anyone wanting to keep track of the person that they actually voted for...
