Drink and Drive Limit to be Cut

A proposal has been put forward this week to reduce the legal limit for drink driving. The current limit is 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood, which allows most people to have one drink and then to drive. The new law would put the limit down to 50mg, which considering different people's body-size and metabolisms, would mean one drink could put you over the legal limit for driving.

Just one pint could put you over the limit...
Obviously this sort of news is going to split people down the middle. There are many people out there who believe that drinking and driving just don't go. Yet there are those who enjoy a drink with a meal and are happy to drive home. It's a small minority, according to the BBC it's only around 3% of drivers who will drink and drive. But will a law like this actually change their habit or will they just continue as they are and hope for the best?
Generally I don't think this is something that will affect drastically here in Hampstead. We're lucky to have a decent transport system (despite what some people might say) and have night buses that run through our area. Anyone with any sense wouldn't drive in London anyway. But does anyone have a particularly strong view on the subject? Or a reason why they have no choice but to drive?

Why bother. Just reduce it to zero alcohol in the system.
Given all the possible explanations as to why someone might be more likely to be over the limit than someone else...body weight etc, it seems almost ludicrous that the law makers bother to try and reduce the drink drive limit by the fractions they are currently proposing.
Unless of course it has something to do with tax revenue and the relationship between the drinks industry and the government of the day.
Dont prevaricate cut the limit to zero. There is no excuse.

ReportIf I'm driving, I don't drink. Simple as. I'd be happy if they banned it altogether.
