Building Site on Whitestone Pond

Ok, a more traditional ‘local news’ article for you all now… But in a way it’s kind of interesting… Am I trying to convince myself here or you?

Hampstead Whitestone Pond
Anyway, if anyone else is like me, they would have travelled past Whitestone Pond (it’s at the top of Heath Street next to Jack Straw’s Castle), seen it surrounded by fences, diggers and men in fluorescent jackets, presumed that they’re building a block of flats upon it, leapt off of the bus and lay down in the middle of the building site to prevent them destroying it’s natural (but man-made) beauty…
Ok, so in the universe that I actually did that, it would have been something of an over-reaction. So instead, I went home and found out what was actually happening there and it turns out that Camden Council is actually doing something nice! The work is phase two of a refurbishment of Whitestone Pond (the first phase improved walkways and lighting) in which will see new seats, bin, grass areas and generally incorporating it into the landscape of Hampstead.
To be honest, if you ask me, this is a great thing for them to be doing. I always thought Whitestone Pond was, not so much of an eyesore, just a little out of place and hopefully this will make it into a place where people can actually relax and enjoy the sun and the noise of the junction and roundabout next to it…
So it may not be the best place to relax, but well done Camden Council for the thought. At least it should look nicer! Thoughts?

It's nice to know that there'll be a part of London still allowed to remain quaint and pretty!

ReportThat will be lovely, that is if you dont get squished by a juggernaut trying to get to it! But if you don't it will be lovely!
