Things To Do In Hampstead This Summer

As we enter August, people often struggle for things to do.

Hampstead Heath in the Sun
For those of us not lucky enough to be going away, we should always remember,
there’s a wealth of things to do right on our doorstep!
Needless to say, should we be
lucky enough to be hit by another heat-wave (which at the moment, isn’t looking
too likely!) we’re lucky enough to have the choice of two outdoor swimming facilities.
For the more traditional swimmer, there is of course the Parliament Hill Lido.
Situated up the road from Hampstead Heath rail station, at £4.30 for an adult
ticket, the pricing is a little steep, especially considering the alternative
just a little further into the Heath… I’m a regular swimmer at the mixed
bathing pond and considering it’s less than half the price of the Lido, if you’re
feeling a bit hippy, it’s definitely the way to go!
However, if you’re not one for
getting damp, of course there is the entire of the Heath to explore. My main
recommendation would be the Parliament
Hill Secret
Garden. Of course, being
a ‘secret’ garden, of course the location isn’t well known. Though the name
give away where abouts it actually is. Finding it, is of course, part of the
fun! But if you want to know, there’s an interesting puzzle over at
hampsteadheath.net. On top of that, there are events all through the summer
scattered around the Heath. Check our events diary to find out what’s
happening!
However, seeing how our summer’s
currently going, we’re most likely going to need to know some potentially drier
and warmer activities. One of the best is of course the Everyman cinema,
located right next to Hampstead Tube. Never as busy as the commercial cinemas
and they generally only show quality films. A little more expensive than a
normal cinema outing, but it’s definitely worth it.
If you’re feeling cultural, we of
course have a wealth of small museums! The most recommended ones that are
actually rather interesting are the Keats
Museum and, even more interesting is
the Freud Museum. Both are worth a visit and both
are very affordable.
Being Hampstead, we of course
have a wealth of art in our small village. If you’ve not done it yet, I’d
recommend seeing a play at the Pentameters Theatre, and then sitting outside
the Horse Shoe pub, discussing it over a pint and watching the world go by. A
fine way to spend an evening.
