Is Our Internet Fast Enough?

Many people out there may have heard of the B.T. Race to Infinity. For those out there who haven’t, it is basically British Telecom’s plan to roll-out superfast fibre optic broadband across the entire UK within the next five years.

Fibre Optic cables could increase internet speeds substantially
According to Broadband Expert, North West London, on average, experiences a download rate of 5.23 Mbps (Megabits per second), which really isn’t that fast, especially when you we’re in the slowest region of London! We’re also below the national average.
Interestingly, BT is pitting areas against each other through a voting system on the Race to Infinity website. The top five areas in the country will be given the opportunity to have superfast broadband in their area sooner rather than later. An interesting way to go about things. The good news for Hampstead however is that we need not worry about voting. Our internet exchange is already on the list to be upgraded.
Yet the internet is a funny thing. Looking at the general feed-back already experienced, unsurprisingly, BT Infinity’s speed is never hitting the 40mbps advertised. I doubt many people would expect that. However, there are reports of people receiving less than 50% of the advertised rate. Surely this isn’t really worth the money?
So how do you find the internet in Hampstead? Is it quick enough, or will BT Infinity be a blessing? Let us know!
