Hampstead Candidate Leads Charge to Save England's Forests

Hampstead electoral candidate Tamsin Omond is leading a campaign to save England’s forests.
Reported in this week’s Ham&High, Omond, who was a candidate in last year’s race for the Hampstead and Kilburn seat in government in last year’s election, is leading the charge to make sure that the government is banned from selling England’s forests. She is joined by Rachel Johnson (sister of Boris) and over 100,000 signatures including that of Dame Judi Dench.
According to DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs), there will be a consultation before any decision is made on a site, but Tamsin Omond is quoted in the Ham&High as saying “A recent poll found more than 80 per cent of people in the UK think the forests should stay in public ownership – that is the element they should be consulting in.’
It is unclear at the moment if there are any particular areas that are under threat from this power that the government have, but due to the economic climate of late, there is a high chance that certain areas will be utilised.
