Camden Council Launches New Recycling Service

For the green minded of you out there, I'm sure you already do your part when it comes to recycling and generally saving the world.
As residents will already be aware, the council currently offer a third refuse collection every week for recyclable materials, but as of yet don't offer a service for collecting food waste. As of the 21st June, residents will be able to recycle their food waste.
It's estimated on the council's website that the average family throw away £50 worth of food waste. This seems like an awful lot to me, but if this is the case, the council's new food recycling containers should give families a real idea of the amount of food that they are wasting and hopefully encourage them, not only to recycle, but also to reduce the amount of waste that they are producing.
In addition to the current containers, the council will be supplying households with:
A small green caddy for food to be kept inside.
A lockable brown caddy for food waste to be stored outside.
Three white reusable bags for garden waste.
A blue bag for paper and card.
If you live in a flat, you'll be lucky enough to receive your own green caddy for your kitchen and shared caddies and containers for your block.
Camden's current rate of recycling is just under 30% and their aim is to be at 45% by 2015. A decent target and one I'm sure shall be achieved seeing as we're in the top ten of London's boroughs.
Everyone will be receiving a letter to let them know when their recycling day will be (but if shouldn't be changing from your current recycling collection...) and if you want to double check, just pop over to the council's website.

Good for Camden. I'm unlucky enough to be just over the border (between Golders green and Hampstead) so don't count as Camden council. I come under Barnet and too be honest it doesn't seem as if they're very good at recycling... But I do live in a flat so maybe it's just because of bad organisation on our part... Either way though, good for Camden, I wish I lived there!
