Yet Another Dog Attack on Hampstead Heath

Since Hampstead people launched over half a year ago, it seems we regularly report on dog attacks on Hampstead heath. A week ago, yet another attack occurred, possibly one of the worst so far.
Anyone would have seen the front page story in this weeks Ham&High about Paul Robinson who was attacked last Thursday morning whilst walking his own dog on the Heath. The attack severed two muscles and resulted in Mr Robinson having to undergo surgery.
According to the article, when confronted, the owner of the accussed dog claimed that Mr Robinson had been attacked by his own pet beagle. I'd be impressed to see a Beagle that could bite a human to the bone and tear two muscles...
Obviously, every individual incident is terrible for the victims, but surely the powers that be have to sit up and pay attention considering the pure volume of attacks over the past few months. The current dog control laws on the Heath do not require all dogs to be on the lead as long as they are under control when they are free. It's quite clear that many of these dogs most definitely are not under control. Surely something needs to be done?

There does seem to be a lot of attacks on Hampstead Heath, but if you think about it, there's a lot of dogs as well... Maybe the problem isn't actually that bad compared to other public paces in regards to the ratio of attacks to dogs...

ReportI sort of person who suggests that someone's own dog attacked them is the reason why animals like this exist. It's unsurprising that dogs from nice, passive families don't seem to attack people, yet dogs from aggressive, unpleasant owners seem to be the ones who cause the trouble. Sort the owners out and we'll sort out the dogs as well...
