Low Frequency Noise (below 100hz) is emitted by heavy vehicles (especially the double-decker buses), refridgeration units in shops, some motorbikes, high-performance cars, electrical transformers, large fans, etc. Most adults simply cannot hear these sounds at all - and they react very negatively to those of us who complain that, to us, these sounds are loud.

The Swiss Cottage noise measuring station identifies 2 peaks. One at around 1,000 hz (this is the noise most people hear), the other peaking at 50hz - which is TEN TIMES louder than the 1000hz frequency. Most people are not aware of sounds at this frequency..

When I walk along the Finchley Road, Kilburn High Street - places where there is a lot of traffic - my hearing awareness is of LOUD, low sounds - that "oppress" me. Yet the shops keep their doors open, people sit outside cafes, etc. They can't hear what I hear.
