Hampstead Thieves Move On

The two suspects who have been terrorising residents of Belsize Park and Hampstead have, according to
police, disappeared.
It was made
public knowledge last week, not only on HampsteadPeople, but also in the local
papers, that the police had launched Operation Behrami in a concentrated
attempt to catch the moped bound thieves. The police have theorised that such
an obvious operation to catch the thieves has scared them off. I imagine this
theory is pretty accurate; as a great man once said, ‘criminals are a
superstitious cowardly lot’. I doubt anyone with an ounce of intelligence would
continue in such a spree once they became aware of the police efforts. The
question is though, did they go the correct way about it?
It’s pretty
obvious that the suspects would most likely disappear as soon as there was a
strong risk of them being caught and I’m sure the police were well aware of
this. I imagine operation Behrami was more of a deterrent than an attempt to
actually catch the suspects. I hate to say it, but I’m sure there are people
out there who agree with me (the victims possibly), I would rather have seen
these criminals caught. Surely an equally concentrated, but less public
effort, would have produced the desired result? Obviously, protection of the
public is of primary importance to the police and they succeeded in this, but it
just seems that now there’s a risk that the suspects are just going to move to
another borough and continue their spree elsewhere… Thoughts?
