Road Works On the High Street

So the water works on the high street have been going for a couple of weeks now. Having watched the chaos unfold, it's interesting to see who as actually been affected by them, and who's complaining for the sake of complaining...
The obvious annoyances comes for motorists. I've watched people trying to drive thorough and fail. Then they resort to the back roads and it all gets a little complicated, especially if they don't know the area.
There have obviously been concerns that the works will take business away from the local traders. At first I thought this was unlikely, but having witnessed a man drive up to the main cross roads, dump his car, walk around for ten minutes asking for a specific restaurant, getting directions and then driving off in the opposite direction, it seems a little more realistic to say that local businesses could be losing out.
I've heard people complaining however that it's affecting the public transport. People not being able to get the bus to the high-street is apparently an issue, although of course there is still the tube so not all is lost...
Of course the whole affair is an inconvenience to us all, but of course it'd be more of an inconvenience if the water pipes were to split, flood the street and deprive us all of water for weeks!
