Camden council have released an interesting new website to allow the general public access to in depth information and statistics about their local area.

The website, Camden Data, combines information from all over the public sector, including the NHS and the police. It also includes information about schools, libraries, parks and pretty much anything else you may need to know about the areas that come under the banner of Camden council.

Of course there is extensive information about Hampstead. Such useful titbits as the combined floor space of all of the retail units in Hampstead comes to 29935 square metres and the the fact that we are home to 16 estate agents!

Generally useless information, but there are of course times when such a facility will be useful. Undoubtedly, politicians, journalists and people looking to start businesses will find it useful and it's a testament to the wonders of the internet that such a facility is now available to the general public. Camden council's reason for releasing the data in such a way is to reiterate their commitment to being 'an open and transparent organisation' and to 'make it easier for you to find information and statistics about the services we provide, how we spend money and how well we are performing.

If anyone else can think of some uses for it, please do share them!
