Yellow Bins to Haunt Hampstead Heath at Night

It is of course accepted that certain goings-on occur on Hampstead Heath when darkness falls. A blind eye is basically turned towards these happenings, however there is a nasty side-effect in the form of litter from these encounters being left behind.

This is something that the powers that be behind the Heath want to prevent. Their tactic? Mobile, bright yellow bins. The idea is that, if there are obvious places for rubbish to be deposited (and the hope is that bright yellow bins at night will be obvious!) then the amount of rubbish left behind will be reduced.

I ventured down to the Heath yesterday to see if I could spot these bins. One concern would of course be that yellow bins would be garish and ruin the aesthetic of the Heath, however they were nowhere to be seen. One can only presume that either they have been removed for the day and are put back each night (a tedious job for the Heath Wardens) or I was looking in the wrong place! (I have to admit I'm not overly familiar with which areas that are used for such recreational activities, so they could have been boldly sitting in the open whilst I looked in the wrong place!)

Either way, any effort to keep our Heath clean is always welcome.

How about highly reflective stickers instead, on the bins that are already there?
