Edwards represented England in the 1992 and 1995 rugby league world cup. Formerly head coach of Rugby Union side London Wasps, Edwards was actually rumoured to be in the running to replace Martin Johnson as England head coach. Instead, he recently signed a contract as defence coach for the Wales national team. Edwards paid Hampstead Rugby Club a visit to put the players through some intensive defence training.
The players were delighted to have such a prominent name in UK rugby on their training ground, and there was many a handshake for Edwards once the training concluded.
Hampstead Rugby Club trains on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Parliament Hill athletics track, and Saturdays are their match days. With up to six teams playing each weekend, and their home pitches set in the depth of Hampstead Heath, they are the envy of many other London clubs.
