A nurse from the Royal Free has landed a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take part in the opening and closing ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Kath Lynch, clinical lead nurse at the Royal Free travel health centre, has been selected to perform in a special sequence in both ceremonies, which is dedicated to NHS workers.

Kath Lynch will appear in the Olympics Opening Ceremony
She will perform in front of a packed stadium and a worldwide broadcast audience in one of the largest events ever staged in the UK. Kath said it was a great honour to be chosen to take part in the ceremonies.
She signed up when a friend showed her an advert encouraging nurses to register their interest. After attending two rounds of auditions in November, Kath discovered she had been selected.
Kath, who has worked at the Royal Free since July 2011, said: "I'm quite nervous about performing in front of so many people but I'm really excited about being given the chance to take part in the Olympics. We will start rehearsals later in the year but we haven't been told too much about exactly what we're going to be doing yet.
"It's great that the NHS will be recognised in such a prestigious event."

How exciting, great to see that the Olympics is causing a buzz already and that 'normal' people are involved.
