So we're approaching that time of year once again. National Bike Week was a huge success last year, thanks to many people embracing the environmental and personal benefits of using a bike for transport instead of jumping in the car or using public transport.

Of course, using public transport isn't a bad thing, but the week, which has been going for a few years now, is there to encourage people to get a little fitter whilst at the same time saving the planet.

No events have been announced yet for Hampstead, but there are bound to be some announced nearer the time if last year is anything to go by. In the meantime, it might be worth searching around and seeing if you can get yourself a good deal on a bike before the rush!

Needless to say, Evans Cycles is always a good place to start if you have the cash to spend on a new cycle. On of their branches can be found down the road on the way to Chalk Farm.

If you want a more personal touch, head on over to Cycle Surgery in West Hampstead. Appparently they are a little more expensive, but they are happy to customize and work with you closely so that you get exactly what you want.

If you feel that a new bike is a little too much, there is of course many a website that you can look on that will save you some money. Gumtree of course is a great place to look for local bargains.

The main thing of course, is if you're out on your bike on the roads, make sure you stay safe and wear a helmet!
