Romy Westwood, Director of the Affordable Art Fair, Hampstead, shares her art buying tips
Romy Westwood, the director of the Hampstead Art Fair, has shared some art buying tips with Hampstead People, in the hope that as many people as possible can leave the fair having enjoyed the experience. (And potentially as the new owners of an original piece of art that they have picked out personally!)
Explore with an open mind
Everyone has their own personal style, so don't necessarily buy what another person tells you.
Get inspired
It's great to see other works to get an idea of how art can adorn your home. Maybe visit Kenwood House and Camden Arts Centre before attending the fair. The more art you're exposed to, the more your knowledge will grow!
Chat!
Don't feel intimidated and don't blag it - no question is the wrong question!
Wear flat shoes
Art fairs are brilliant but inevitably involve a lot of walking, so make sure you've got comfortable footwear and pace yourself.
Just do it!
As a rule you only get one chance to buy original art so if there's something you've got your heart set on, go for it!If you're worried about not having enough money, many of the galleries at the Affordable Art Fair are very accomodating and some will allow you to pay in instalments.
The Hampstead Affordable Art Fair runs from Thursday 27th October to Sunday 30th October and takes place on the Lower Fairground Site next to East Heath Road. For two for one entry, print off this Hampstead People article and present it at the ticket office.
