The Fate of Hampstead's Heath Library is Decided
By Simon__Lee | Wednesday, December 28, 2011, 12:33
The organisation that will be taking over the running of Hampstead's Heath Library has been decided.
It was agreed that three of Camden's libraries, Heath library included, would be used by community groups for whichever services the council deemed best. All three libraries (Belsize, Chalk Farm and Heath Library) will all still be used as libraries, but will now be run by community groups. Their fates are as follows:
Belsize Library: Community library, café, work spaces, and a possible nursery.
Chalk Farm: Community run library
Heath Library will still run as a library, but will have a specific focus on children and young people. They hope to extend the use of the library to the wider community, and it will be funded by membership.
Needless to say, we will keep you up-to-date with how Heath library is doing, but after the concerns that the library would be closed, many local residents will be pleased that the library will continue to function.

ReportHeath Library will be renamed Keats Community Library and will be a full library.( FYI there are restricitive covenants on the building so a library was really the only possible use for it, or City of London would have kept it for their own use as a poetry centre.) Please e mail keatscommunitylibrary@gmail.co.uk if you would like to support us.

ReportI don't like the 'aimed at children and young people' part! I actually use the library! I hope they keep some form of adult section...

ReportWould have been interesting to see it used as something else, though it's probably for that best that it's staying as a library.

ReportI'm glad it's still being used as a library, would have been a shame to see it go, though I'm sure the building would have been used for something productive...
