Boris Bikes Coming to Hampstead

Boris Johnson has promised that one of his biggest contributions during his time as Mayor, his Boris Bike's (as they will most likely forever be known) will be coming to Hampstead.

Boris Bikes - A sight we could soon be seeing in Hampstead
The Mayor visited a rooftop garden in Crouch End last week, and in that time vowed that the bikes would appear in North London as soon as the money was available. I feel that a quote on the Ham&High website sums it up best:
'It is only a matter of time before the great blue waves of velocipedes crest the hills of north London.'
He truly has a way with words.
Any details are, of course, yet to be confirmed. In the meantime, how can those of us in Hampstead make the most of this facility?
The most convenient docking station to get to from Hampstead High Street is probably the one just down the road from Mornington Crescent. I've used this one before, and a cycle to, for example Holborn, from there, is quite pleasant, if not a little busy on the traffic front. With Tottenham Court road out of action though, it's not a bad bet if it's a nice day!
If you're coming from the West Hampstead side of things though, there was a useful post several months ago on West Hampstead Life suggesting alternative routes into town using the bikes if you want to avoid the tube and the slow meandering buses. Understandable on a weekend.
How long we will have to wait for the bikes to appear on our high street, time will of course tell. One would hope that they're here in time for next summer.

An interesting point has been raised by people on Twitter... How many people are going to cycle up the hill from Chalk Farm? Everyone's going to go down it (because it would be fun!) but no-one's going to come back up! There won't be any bikes left!

ReportRumor has it that we'll be able to use Oyster cards to rent the bikes soon as well. Which will be nice!
